the difference between exercise and activity, discover how
to make it fun, keep it safe, and stay injury free. Find
out how to prepare your body for physical activity that
fits your lifestyle, and be introduced to tools to help
your body recover after activity. Discover the holistic
health benefits of physical activity. It’s more than

Pre Participation Evaluations
Workshop – What Every Active Trainer and Coach Should
Know
Physical activity is now recognized
as an essential component of healthy living and well-being.
Regular physical activity is known to increase physical
capacity, decrease body fat, increase lean body tissue and
bone density, and lower rates of coronary heart disease,
type II diabetes, hypertension, and cancer (Lee et all 1991).
However, one of the consequences of this focus on physical
activity and sports participation is the increasing incidence
of injuries with no discrimination as to activity or sports
type.
The Pre-Participation Examination (PPE) should be employed
as the first line of defense in reducing the occurrence
of injuries. MaxFit offers a Pre-Participation Evaluation
workshop for trainers and coaches.
Research has shown that conducting a PPE and utilizing the
findings to design training programs decreases the incidence
and severity of activity related sport injuries. The sports
participant can improve performance and find more enjoyment
in their sport experience. The average individual can engage
in activity with comfort and confidence.
In addition to injury prevention, the PPE has several other
benefits, including identification of strengths and deficiencies
in athletic abilities such as level of fitness, biomechanical
faults and asymmetries, and congenital disorders. The PPE
increases the confidence athletes have in their own abilities.
The PEE is also an excellent starting point for an educational
platform about fitness conditioning, injury prevention and
general health and wellness for athletes and coaches. And,
where applicable, it satisfies the legal requirements for
pre-season screening required by insurance companies for
some sports.
Overall, this type of athletic profiling can help determine
whether the individual is fit to participate or should only
be allowed limited participation in a selected activity.
In addition, by correcting the deficiencies discovered in
the examination, performance can be improved and the frustration
level decreased.
MaxFit’s PPE Workshop includes basic PPE principles
and components and examples of PPE examinations for specific
sports and exercise programs. Workshop content can be tailored
for specific sports.
Running Free – A Pre-habilitation
Clinic
Running—competitive or recreational—is
the most popular sport used to attain fitness in our society.
To most runners it’s not just a sport but a philosophy
of life. However, this popular, affordable and effective
fitness tool can plague over-zealous participants with crippling
injuries.
Everyone has an “exercise quotient” (i.e. the
amount of exercise a persons needs to do in a particular
session before they feel satisfied) and a “Biomechanical
limit/tolerance” (i.e. point at which a person’s
body breaks down from exercise). A balance between your
exercise quotient and biomechanical limit can help you stay
healthy for enjoyable injury-free running. MaxFit’s
Running Free Clinic will help you find that balance.
This workshop is appropriate for any level or runner, from
the experienced to the beginner who wants to improve their
skill and efficiency in running. Tri-athletes who wish to
decrease their running time segment, soccer or basketball
players who want to improve speed and explosive power or
coaches or fitness trainers who want to improve their athletes’
running skills will all benefit.
This workshop will explore the many safety aspects of running.
Mechanics and skills will be emphasized. Common pitfalls
of “jump starting” a training program, causes
and prevention of common injuries, and the perils of ligament,
bone and muscle overuse will all be reviewed. Participants
will learn how functional training methods can prepare you
for running efficiently. The workshop will also explain
the principles and benefits of post exercise/training recovery
methods (preparing for the next run).
The workshop includes a hands-on session at the track where
participants will be video taped while running. Techniques
will be analyzed techniques. The workshop will also teach
you strength and flexibility skills and techniques.
Wellness in the Workplace
Workshop
Many people believe that being healthy or achieving optimal
health is defined by the absence of pain or other clinical
symptoms. The Wellness approach views optimal health as
finding balance and well being among all qualities of a
individual—physical, mental, social and spiritual.
Many health care practitioners and the general public are
now embracing the Wellness model of health. In a nutshell,
it is about promoting lifestyle changes leading to enhanced
living in the workplace or whatever space you spend your
days.
In this workshop participants will learn to identify with
the concept of ergonomic wellness in their personal space,
differentiate between the illness model and wellness model
of health and understand how overall wellness can make a
huge difference in their personal relationships and their
social and working environments. In addition, participants
will learn that being “well” can reduce stress
and conflict, increase tolerance to daily troubled situations,
increase energy, enhance the capability to handle stress,
increase work productivity, enhance inner peace and confidence,
and improve the quality of their life.
